In relation to leadership studies within the sports sector I think it’s imperative that we continue to allow our young leaders of tomorrow to see and learn from as many different people and cultures as possible. To give them the encouragement to think outside the box and see and formulate their own leadership style incorporating their own personal values and beliefs. We are now seeing a whole new range of leadership styles which can connect to a whole host of different cultures and people and I’m particularly keen to see even more innovation and new ideas which can only be enhanced I believe by showing as many different people as possible to the youth of today. For years past we were blindly influenced by an autocratic form of leadership and now we are seeing more and more styles and personalities influence us in so many other exciting ways. It was my absolute pleasure to work with Zee on delivering a seminar that focused on the different leadership styles in the sport industry for final year student at ManMet. The general energy and spirit in the campus was brilliant for me to experience and a huge credit to Zee and all his fellow staff and students.

I have been privileged to work alongside Linda and Zee for three years now in an advisory capacity focusing on developing leadership skills and styles. This has included presenting several lectures to students at MMU which have been mutually beneficial and forged a working relationship between the two parties. Leadership studies within the hospitality sector demonstrate the importance of cognitive, emotional and behavioural traits that are essential within the industry. Communication skills are paramount in any industry but more so in the hospitality sector where organisational skills are only valuable when communication commands respect. These are the two skills I have focused on as a business leader and which I have found to be my most valuable tool.

Being a leader in the Police service is as rewarding as it is complex. The nature of Policing can require a leader to move swiftly between different leadership styles. It is important to understand the strengths and weaknesses of different styles of leadership and to recognise when each style will be used to best effect. Most people will have a natural style of leadership and it is important to know what that is and how it impacts on those we work with, it is important that we understand and value difference of styles and seek to develop ourselves to become a more holistic leader. I have worked with Linda and Zee for 3 years now and they have a passion for developing a new generation of leaders, they value the experience and diversity of different leadership roles in our society and use the experiences of leaders in our communities to develop the leaders of tomorrow. Leadership in the NHS is more important than ever before, it’s not an easy job, we often have to make tough decisions which some people won't like. The key is making sure that all decisions are made with patients’ best interest at heart. Effective leadership is essential if a health services organization is to provide high-quality care and succeed financial in the current landscape. We need high quality leaders at every level and in every area to ensure that we are able to deliver high quality compassionate care to all our patients. Cultures of outstanding leadership lead to improved staff engagement, andimproved staff engagement results in improved outcomes and productivity. It's important for any leader to lead by example to ensure that everyone in the team feels actively engaged, empowered and valued for their contributions. I have attended a workshop presented by Linda and Zee focusing on leadership organised by the LMC. I found the workshop very thought provoking and it stimulated lots of lively discussions amongst the delegates. It got me thinking about the different kinds of leaders and leadership models. We are all leaders in one way or another. Once again, I would like to thank you for your help and advice, I would highly recommend other clinicians starting out on their journey in NHS leadership to attend similar workshops if possible.
